AutoTRAX EDA and it`s successor AutoTRAX Design Express (DEX) are strong EDA tool to help electronic developers. All the expected features to manage a design and development project from concept to production are included in the package. The design rule checking at every stage ensures that the design does. There`s a built in hierarchical design manager that lets you keep track of the complete process. You can follow either the bottom up or the top down design process, the project manager is going to be equally useful. It can help with reuse of design components and sub-systems quite effectively.

The schematic capture stage lets you build the components and the interconnections. At this stage you can drag in components or parts of circuit that can be reused. The interconnections are set up quickly and easily including buses and off page connectors etc. Schematic capture can check of any dangling connections as well as all other design rule violations in the circuitry you just created. If you need a new part you can easily create one, use the integral parts creator to create the new part outline, pin outs etc. Analog performance check through integrated Spice simulator is available. Check the performance through virtual instruments such as oscilloscopes and signal generators. At the PCB creation stage component placement and routing are taken care of by the package. Automatic placement and auto-routing with manual intervention at either stage can be used. CAM files for manufacturing of PCB prototypes are then generated along with other manufacturing documents such as BOM etc are then created. A contract manufacturer can then take it forward through pilot and full production phases.

Overall: Quite an excellent design automation tool. Perhaps a little limited in today`s really high frequency designs.

Next AutoTRAX can either autoroute your board or you can use a combination of automatic and manual routing to quickly and reliably complete all electrical wiring. The design of the AutoTRAX internal data ensures you main full electrical integrity with your schematic design. No surprises with lost or missing PCB tracks or wires, or those extra wires.
Now that you have your design finished and routed you can then produce all Computer Aided Manufacturing files you will need to produce the board, drill the holes, cut its profile, order parts using the Bill Of Materials, and place your parts using the pick and place files.
